The mission of Northwood GREENlife is to lead and inspire sustainable living practices in the Northwood area, West Palm Beach, Florida

“If we all take small steps every day to reduce the amount of waste we produce, we can help protect our planet for generations to come.”

NORTHWOOD COMPOST PROGRAM

Compost your food scraps and yard waste. It is free, has numerous environmental benefits, and is the only way to obtain healthy soil in an organic way. This is of key importance specifically in Florida. Why?  Because we do not go below freezing tempartures, our pest and insects do not die. This has lead to an increase use of pesticides in our region. The improper use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers has left our already sandy soil depleted of nurtients.  Compost returns and amends back the nutrients and bacteria that soil needs to be alive.   A healthy soil results in healthier plants reducing the need for pesticides.  Florida plays an extremely important role in the worlds eco-system and agriculture. In addition to protecting our soil, reduction of pesticides use helps maintain a healthy popuation of bees and butterflies vital pollinators in our eco-system.

DROP OFF YOUR COMPOST AT THE VILLAGE GREENS COMMUNITY GARDEN

We now have a large compost bin at The Village Greens Community Garden. We have experimented and tested various forms of composting and composters. If you are intrested in starting your own compost and need some advice feel free to contact us.
